Overview
A Virtual aviation training application. Designed to solve industry challenges and focused on real-life skills practised inside an immersive environment.
This application was designed to simulate real-world starting engine procedures, help users understand electric power systems inside the aeroplane, and provide an authentic learning experience that emphasises practical skills. It was also designed to facilitate a deep understanding of aviation mechanics and navigational techniques, ensuring trainees are thoroughly prepared for real-life scenarios.
Challenge
-
Creating an intuitive, non-intrusive UI that does not distract from the immersive experience.
-
Addressing the potential for motion sickness and physical discomfort during extended use.
-
Providing meaningful feedback and assessments that help trainees improve their skills.
-
Designing effective collaboration and communication methods among trainees and instructors within the VR environment.
Ideation
We worked closely with the client to understand their business needs. After understanding this, we created the best possible concepts that work in immersive environments. We storyboarded all ideas to communicate better within all teams. We also worked closely with the 3D Art team to make sure the environment was aligned with our UX space planning

Feature-oriented research allowed us to investigate similar applications and find the best practices for user interaction. We made sure to back our research up with psychology and behavioural design to get the users to know better and understand their needs and how they perform training in the first place.
Who are we designing for?
This application is designed for aviation sector instructors and trainees. It aims to revolutionise the training process by reducing costs and enhancing the efficiency of onboarding new personnel. This VR platform increases accessibility, allowing users to engage in high-quality training sessions without needing expensive, real-world resources.
UX Process
We first determined the user's journey, and we dived deep into the user experience details. This process covers the definition of interactions, UIs, audio, haptics and visual effects. UX flows allowed us to determine the overall mechanics. Those definitions guided the development team in approaching the mechanics of the experience..

Final Results
We facilitated testing with our clients and internal groups to ensure the application was functioning. Using Shapes XR and rapid prototypes in Figma, we examined what needed further iterations and what worked well.
